Number of Companions:
Limited to one person per patient, as determined by the patient’s physician.
Compliance with Rules:
Companions must adhere to hospital regulations. Violations may result in revocation of companion privileges.
Mandatory Training:
Companions must follow patient/caregiver training provided by nurses (e.g., hand hygiene, fall risk prevention).
Patient Movement:
Companions must not take the patient outside the ward/hospital without the physician’s or nurse’s approval.
Medical Interventions:
Companions must not perform any medical procedures on the patient unless instructed by the medical team.
Privacy of Others:
Respect the privacy of other patients at all times.
Noise Control:
Avoid loud conversations in rooms/hallways.
Keep TV volume low to avoid disturbing others.
Leaving the Ward:
Companions must inform the nurse before leaving the patient’s side.
Companion changes may only occur during visiting hours with the nurse’s approval.
Prohibited Substances:
Tobacco and alcohol are strictly prohibited on hospital premises.
Food/Drink Restrictions:
Only hospital-provided meals are allowed. Outside food/drink requires nurse approval.
Visitor Limits:
To reduce infection risks, ensure visitors are few in number and brief.
Reporting Concerns:
Calmly notify the nurse immediately of any adverse changes in the patient’s condition. Use the call button.
Rounding Hours:
Companions must vacate patient rooms during physician rounds.
Specialized Units (ICU, Maternity, etc.):
Additional companion guidelines are provided in unit-specific patient guides and posted at entrances.
