As part of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to encourage breastfeeding and provide mothers with information and proper habits regarding breastfeeding, the “Promotion of Breast Milk and Baby-Friendly Hospitals Program” was launched in 1991 to ensure that breastfeeding becomes successful and sustainable in hospitals providing maternity and child services. The main objective of the program is to standardize breastfeeding within healthcare services based on the “10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding” principles, ensuring that babies get the best start in life.

Hospitals providing maternity services that inform expectant mothers about breast milk and breastfeeding from pregnancy, ensure that mothers breastfeed their babies within the first half-hour after birth, and assist mothers with breastfeeding techniques through well-trained healthcare personnel, earn the title of "Baby-Friendly Hospital."

Baby-friendly hospitals also ensure the proper feeding and care of newborns who do not receive breast milk, through the most appropriate methods and duration. Our hospital was granted the title of "BABY-FRIENDLY HOSPITAL" by the Ministry of Health in 2018. As a Baby-Friendly Hospital, we regularly provide breastfeeding counseling and education to all staff based on the latest information. Our mission as a Baby-Friendly Hospital is to ensure that all babies exclusively receive breast milk for the first six months, and continue breastfeeding for 2 years or more, alongside complementary foods.

Baby-friendly hospitals are more likely to encourage breastfeeding compared to non-baby-friendly hospitals. They emphasize emotional bonding by facilitating skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby during the first half-hour after birth. Furthermore, baby-friendly hospitals benefit premature babies through conscious practices that ensure proper care and nutrition. Another advantage of baby-friendly hospitals is the continued support from informed healthcare personnel after discharge, to help maintain breastfeeding habits. In this context, our hospital offers services related to breast milk and breastfeeding to expectant mothers, pregnant women, and all parents after delivery through the BREASTFEEDING AND RELACTATION CLINIC, located on the 2nd floor of the outpatient clinic.
